Brooklyn-based Podiatrist, Paul J. Liswood, Named 76th President of the NYSPMA

Bringing 25 Years of Podiatric and Leadership Expertise, Liswood Will Continue to Advocate for the Value of Podiatric Services

NEW YORK (June 12, 2018) – The New York State Podiatric Medical Association (NYSPMA) named Paul J. Liswood, DPM, as the 76th president of the association. Dr. Liswood, who succeeds Dr. Patricia Nicholas, NYSPMA’s first Caribbean-born female president, was installed during the NYSPMA 122nd Annual House of Delegates on June 2 at the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York.

Dr. Liswood, who has been in private-practice for over 25 years, comes from a long line of New York-based podiatrists. In 1931, Liswood’s grandfather established a podiatry practice in the Bronx. His father, Fred Liswood, DPM, is one of the pioneers of office-based surgery. Today, Dr. Paul Liswood practices at Comprehensive Podiatry Services, a division of ProHEALTH Care associates, in Brooklyn, New York.

Serving on the NYSPMA Board of Directors for eight years, Dr. Liswood has focused his attention on policy initiatives giving presentations to health plan medical directors, legislators, governmental agencies, the New York State Department of Health, and advocacy groups debating the critical role of podiatric medicine for patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes. As NYSPMA president, he will aim to advance the association’s message that podiatry care improves outcomes and lowers healthcare costs of key patient populations.

“I am honored to lead the NYSPMA during this exciting time in the organization’s history,” stated Dr. Liswood during his opening remarks. “During my term, we will continue the focus of raising the profile of podiatry. We will build strong alliances with other associations, organizations, and patient advocacy groups. We will also develop and implement demonstration projects to further advance the findings from the recent NYSPMA population health study, which demonstrates how podiatrists improve outcomes and reduce costs in treating patients in the areas of diabetes, obesity, opioids and substance abuse, and fall prevention. Now, more than ever, it is critically important to have podiatry services fully integrated within New York’s healthcare delivery system.”

In 2016, Dr. Liswood received the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Meritorious Service Award. The Meritorious Service Award is given in recognition
of outstanding accomplishments at the local, state, or regional level in scientific, professional, or civic endeavors that have had a profound impact on
podiatric medicine.

Dr. Liswood is a graduate of New York College of Podiatric Medicine. His practice interests include foot surgery, sports issues, heel pain, and skin and nail conditions of the foot, diabetic foot care, children’s foot problems, and podiatric medicine.
