Legislative
Action
Your legal right to practice
depends on the New York laws licensing podiatrists. Other laws
address your right to be paid, the malpractice premiums you must
pay, your access to hospital privileges, the disciplinary proceedings
which can be used against you, the conditions under which your
office operates, the staff and equipment you use, and dozens of
other aspects of your practice. Influencing these laws and regulations
is a major NYSPMA service. Without these efforts, the specialty
of podiatric medicine could be squeezed out of the health care
system. NYSPMA efforts in Albany, and APMA efforts in Washington,
are essential to your capacity to practice your profession.

Continuing Medical Education
New York licensees must
obtain at least 50 validated CME credit hours every 3 years. By
fully attending NYSPMA'S annual Clinical Conference, you can meet
these requirements. The podiatric products and services trade
show held in conjunction with this Conference offers an opportunity
to deal with quality vendors efficiently and economically. As
an NYSPMA member you can attend these conferences without a fee
in many cases, or at substantially reduced fees.

Information Services
NYSPMA provides you with a variety of informational
sources which keep you current on professional developments, reimbursement

dues structure is membership in the American Podiatric Medical
Association, which brings with it federal level activities which
parallel NYSPMA's, The Journal of the APMA, and the monthly APMA

Professional Fellowship
Most podiatrists work as solo practitioners. It is
important to realize that isolation can be dangerous to your professional
health. NYSPMA provides interaction and education through meetings,
conferences and publications. The fellowship of NYSPMA membership may
seem intangible, but the support it provides is real, and it is crucial
to the success of a busy practitioner.
