Why belong to the
NYSPMA?
There are more
than 38,000 associations in the United States whose members
have joined to advance their interests. Doctors of Podiatric
Medicine must do the same to keep pace and to cope with the
constant changes in content and balance, which affect health
care policy, economics, technology and management. This is not
an optional involvement; it is essential for the profession's
survival.
Podiatry is
still a small profession, but it has big ambitions: full scope
of practice, universal inclusion in benefit programs, parity
with allopathic physicians, to cite only a few. These objectives
require joint efforts and full-time attention. That is why NYSPMA
and APMA exist. Since 1895, were first chartered by the State
legislature (as The Pedic Society), NYSPMA has blazed the way
for virtually every step of progress made by the podiatry profession.
Formal education, licensure, surgical privileges, prescription
privileges, hospital privileges, Blue Cross-Blue Shield participation,
and scores of legislative reforms aimed at parity with our colleagues
in allopathic medicine. Without NYSPMA podiatry itself would
not be what it has thus far become. The work, of course, is
far from finished, and NYSPMA needs YOUR membership so it can
help you and the profession, evolve into all that you and it
can become tomorrow.
